We took some friends of ours out to Palena since they help house sit for us while we were on vacation. Most of the menu was the same, instead of repeating everything, we only documented the dishes that were new.

  • Mezzi Rigatoni Alla Bolognese (Half Rigatoni Pasta with a Bolognese Style Meat Ragu Shaved Pecorino) – Better than the penne we had last time. The sauce was sweeter and there were pieces of diced vegetables at the bottom of the sauce which added some substance to the dish. It really made a huge difference. The pasta as always was cooked perfectly.
  • White Beans in Garlic – Instead of the usual Greens on th bottom of the chicken, this time around they served white beans. The waiter incorrectly stated that these were chickpeas. The beans were really cold, and they were really heavy on the garlic flavor. Not exactly the best that Palena has done.
  • Donut Peach Compote (With Almond Custard and Little Almond Cakes) – Coming back from our trip in Seattle and having some really great donut peaches, the wife gravitated towards this. The combination of the almond and the sweet peach was offset by the the almond cake. The cakes were soft and the custard was soft was well. The wife really liked it.
  • Peach Pie (With Vanilla Ice Cream) – Nice firm crust, the peaches were really fragrant and retained much of their natural flavor. The the vanilla ice cream was well pretty standard.
