Had a day in DC. We’ve being eyeing2 Amys for a while just never got around to it.

  • Cinnamon Donut – They only have a tray of them on the weekends. When we got there near opening time, a good size of them were missing. The donut comes with a donut hole as well. It seems as if they were made from potato flour. Really warm and delicious with the cinnamon sprinkles.
  • Shrimp & Shrimpy Tomato Sauce, Olives, Capers, Garlic and Parsley Pizza – Hands done, the best pizza we’ve ever had. Large whole shrimp mixed with pitted olives. The capers and garlic add to the flavoring. Add some of the hot peppers and you got yourself a real winner. Thin and flavorful crust.
  • Green Tomato, Buffala, Grana, Egg and Chives Pizza – Still a good pizza, but not as wonderful as the first one. The tomato and poached egg went well together. The mozzarella and Parmesan was warm and melted down.
  • Orange creamsicle soda – San Benedetto red orange soda and vanilla ice cream – Saw this on the menu and we decided we had to get it. Be sure to wait for the ice cream to melt. Otherwise the orange soda by itself is so so.

Decor: Black and white photos align the wall. The service is really quick and friendly. The seats and tables have that old country comfort to them. In the back room, there is a yellow wall with bookcases built in with wines all over. One thing we were impressed with was the seating. They seated the people with kids in one section. No kids in another section. That way everyone is happy.

Overall Assessment: ($$, 7/10) – We had initially only ordered one pizza, because it was so good we ordered a second. It is better than the pizza that we’ve had in Italy. Great place to bring the family as well. We came near opening time when it wasn’t so busy. When we left at noonish, people were starting to filter in. Wife commented on how it was good marketing to be able to target the hip singles, the families and the foodies. Very rare to see all of them in one place. My only minor complaint is the pizza sizes. They could have been a little bigger.
